On second thought …

I’m wondering if the study of how to endure might be too limited, too much of an existential downer. Who endeavors to merely endure? Baby, I want to live ! So let’s reconsider our exploration, expand it, en-lighten it, en-liven it. We’re not here to merely survive, overcome pain, avoid suffering, postpone death. Rather, I’d like to think we’re here to love, to feel, to grow, to give, to experience, to live. But I digress; more on that later – Getting back to our list … Let’s take each philosophy/theory/belief system, whatever you’d like to call them, individually, and look at the pros, the cons, the benefits and caveats inherent in each. We’ll start with my person favorite, the ever-popular platform espousing the power of the individual to manifest whatever he/she wants out of thin air and co-create of life he/she desires … Several years ago, a group of enlightened insiders introduced the “The Secret” of unlimited health, wealth and happiness to the great unwashed ma...

What a week ...

So while it appears that Valentine’s Day, perhaps the most ridiculous “holiday” on the American calendar, has come and gone without incident, this week we’ve also got the Winter Olympics and Presidents’ Day. Not to mention Mardi Gras, followed by Lent (what are you giving up?). We're also ushering in the Asian New Year, the Year of The Tiger. Well, 2010 is in fact forecasted to be a year of change – and conflicts, break-ups, clashes, and car crashes. Activity and agitation in every arena save the economy, which they claim will remain stagnant until 2015ish. Oh, joy. More trials and tribulations coming down the pike … So let’s get back to something light: this niggling question of how to endure . However, before we can figure out how we can best live in the world that sometimes seems so full of woe, let’s first explore some of the different theories – physica...

Enduring ...

February. Over 1/12 of 2010 already gone. Now that I’m officially a blogger and may blog at my whim, now that I’ve embraced this international electronic platform, allowing me to share thoughts and express opinions and hear comments, I’m finding myself at a loss for words … Like so many new years, this one opened with such hope and promise. Despite some residual gunk seeping over from years past, this seemed end of the decussis horribilis , an entryway into a brave new world where anything’s possible. Then the alcohol wore off and the hangover haze cleared, and lo and behold the dirty dishes piled in the sink still need to be cleaned and put away. In fact, after that brief holiday respite, new horrors (catastrophic earthquakes) have been shoveled atop the pile of old crap (near depressions, renewed nuclear threat, the end of the democratic process as we knew it, so many corners of the world at or at the brink of war, etc.), and it might not seem like such a happy new yea...
